St. Apollonia Church, Missian

There was probably a church in Missian in very ancient times, first documented at the beginning of the 15th century. The small church, built on a vineyard hill in Missian and visible from afar, was consecrated to St. Zeno in 1415. The Gothic church was rebuilt 75 years later and served as the predecessor of the present church. Only after the new construction between 1840 and 1843 did St. Apollonia become the main patron saint, with St. Zeno now considered a secondary patron. After the reconstruction, the tower with pointed arch windows, a round-arch door on the ground floor, parts of the foundation walls, and the choir wall visible from the outside remained in the late Gothic structure. The main façade design with flat pilasters, massive gables, and the small mosaics above the church portal reflect the popular trend of the time.Source:
