THE 6 LOCKS OF THE HISTORICAL EIDER CANAL
The historic locks were completed with the Eider Canal in 1784.
All locks (with the exception of the Rendsburg lock, which has only one chamber) are identical in construction with a main chamber, the ship lock, which is 35 m long and 7.8 m wide, and a side chamber, the free lock, which is 5 m wide.
The structures for regulating the water level based on the Dutch model are a significant engineering achievement.

The road bridge at the Kluvensiek lock was originally built as a Dutch bascule bridge. The bridge portals were initially made of wood, but were later replaced by cast iron portals.
In 2013, the historic facility was upgraded for tourism with an information pavilion.
