    Edersee-Atlantis

Due to the construction of the barrier wall, the three villages in the Edertal Asel, Berich and Bringhausen had to be relocated.
Bringhausen was demolished and rebuilt in the immediate vicinity - at a higher point above the newly emerging Edersee. The approach of the Aseler was similar. On a ridge, north of the original village, they built the new district of Asel and on the opposite shore of the future lake Asel -South. The town of Berich was completely demolished by its inhabitants and was completely rebuilt in the vicinity of Bad Arolsen and has since called itself a very true "new" berry.
The homesteads Stollmühle, Gut Vornhagen, Bericher Hütte and the Niederwerber Hammer had to give way to the project, as they were all located in the area of the future reservoir.
Here you can find out more about the 100-year history of the Edertalsperre.

Even today you can visit the remains of the old settlements, the "Edersee-Atlantis" at low water level in the Edersee (such as the Aseler bridge, parts of the provided with concrete ceilings old cemeteries, etc. as well as a model of the dam).

The following table provides information on the water level at which the individual structures appear.
    It's worth a visit!

When the lake is empty, it's always worth making a detour here.

From here the ferry goes from Asel to Asel-Süd over the Edersee. Bike transport is possible. If the water level is sufficient, always from April 1st to the end of October.

In summer there is always an ice cream truck on the south bank, delicious. From here, good entry point to Kellerwald Rundweg, alternatively only direction Banfebucht and from there towards Peterskopf to Hochspeicherbecken. From the north shore you can reach the east along the lake to Hünselburg and from there to the peninsula Scheid or via Basdorf back to Asel.

Great experience is the 500 meter ferry ride over the Edersee in the small boat! Attention: Note travel times, because from 18 o'clock the ferry does not drive any more. Operating hours from 10 to 18 o'clock. With 3 people we paid € 10.50.

Not really a spectacle of nature, because artificially created, but very impressive to be able to walk in the footsteps of the sunken places and just because of nature simply not possible every year (until now ...).

At very low water level in the Edersee, you can see the old rustic bridge of Asel and ev. At normal water level you can use a ferry to translate at this point.

Remember the travel times! 10 to 18 o'clock! Otherwise, you drive an extra round ... except the water level is so low in late autumn that you can drive over! But I would not touch it. With 3 people we paid one direction 10,50 Euro!

In Asel-Nord is the ferry landing station (bells and ferry comes ...). There you will find the board over the sunken village of Asel in the Edersee
