The Franz Josef I Promenade, known locally as the Lungomare, connects the picturesque fishing village of Volosko with Opatija, Ičići, Ika and Lovran. This landmark of Opatija has always been popular with locals and all guests for pleasant walks. The Lungomare passes some of the most beautiful beaches and famous sights of the city, such as Villa Angiolina with its surrounding park and the statue of Girl with the Seagull. As you walk along the coast, admire the view of the magnificent historic villas and other architectural gems from the 19th century.2011 marks the centenary of Opatija's most famous promenade - the famous Lungomare seaside promenade stretching from Volosko to Lovran and today bears the name of Emperor Franz Josef I. It was created between the 19th and 20th centuries in the heyday of the spa and holiday resort of Opatija, and was built in stages: the first section, the so-called North Beach from Volosko to Opatija, was built in 1889; in the same year that Opatija was officially declared a climatic health resort. The second stage, the southern beach from Opatija to Lovran, was completed in 1911.Since then, Lungomare has been the most popular promenade for residents and guests of Opatija, the favorite subject of many photographs and pictures, and an indispensable part of the Opatija cityscape when viewed from the sea.visitopatija.com/en/the-seaside-promenade-lungomare-a-walk-by-the-sea-from-volosko-to-lovran-p477
