This 15th century brick cross church is one of the finest examples of late Gothic church construction in Groningen. Here and there tuff has been incorporated into the walls, probably from the old Romanesque church. The beautiful interior offers many sights. There are 16th century wall and vault paintings, there is an epitaph in honor of Egbert Onsta, and a sacramental niche of yellow Bentheim sandstone. The northern entrance door from around 1500 is one of the few remaining medieval doors in Groningen. The tower from 1487 was given a dome in the 17th century in which a carillon was later placed. In the tower itself hangs a bell from 1520. The carillon and clock were stolen by the Germans in WWII, but hung back in the tower in 1946.
