Located in the immediate vicinity of the spa town of Bad Bevensen, approx. 30 km south-east of the old Hanseatic city of Lüneburg and first mentioned in 1228, the Protestant women's monastery at Kloster Medingen can look back on a long, eventful history.

It is one of the six "Lüneburg Monasteries" that have survived since the Middle Ages until today. The old brick brewery gives an idea of what Medingen looked like at that time.

What is special, however, is the shape of its early classical main building, which was built in an uncompromisingly modern form from 1782 after a devastating fire in the old monastery complex. It is the only ensemble of its kind in northern Germany. The broad facade of the symmetrical structure, which is based on an H-shape, is dominated in the middle by the mighty bell tower of the integrated monastery church. The domed central building is still used today regularly for church services, weddings, baptisms and cultural events. Its early classicist interior has a special atmosphere. During guided tours, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of a place that has long been inhabited and shaped by women.

Medingen Monastery offers a wide range of cultural activities. Concerts in church or ballroom become a special experience due to the unique surroundings. The beautiful scenic location is ideal for walks, hikes and bike rides.
