The St. Nikolaihof is a listed historical building complex in Bardowick. The medieval complex consists of residential and farm buildings, which are spread around a St. Nikolai church. The old trees of the complex are also worth mentioning.

The earliest written mention of the “house of the poor sick” was in a document from 1251. The farm belonged to the city of Lüneburg, which housed their lepers outside the city walls here. After the leprosy was contained, the facility was converted into a retirement home. The accommodation was separated according to sex. In the 15th century about 80 people populated the farm, half of them residents of the women's and men's house, the other half of service and administrative staff (administrators, pastors, sextons, organists, shepherds, servants and maids).
In the early 14th century a chapel and the (old) men's house were built, the provisional (house of the administrator) in the 16th century. Around 1700 another (the new) men's house and the so-called organist house (actually the pastorate, the actual organist house was demolished in 1802) were added. In 1720/21 the women's refuge was renewed.
The women's shelter is still used today in its original function. The Nikolaihof is being refurbished as part of the federal-state program “Urban Monument Protection”, the exterior work has already been largely carried out.
