The small waterfall has existed since around the 15th century, the large one was built in the 18th century by order of the prince abbot of Stablo, probably to protect the village of Petit-Coo on the meander from flooding.
Nowadays the waterfalls are a tourist attraction. There is a restaurant and the amusement park Plopsa Coo in the small valley.
