In July 1898, the Zwettl Beautification Association, under its chairman Franz Beydi, decided to erect a memorial on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Josef in the Kamptal upstream of the city, on the way to the recently completed power station. It was agreed to erect a gallery with a stone balustrade on the square by the first small waterfall, on which a portrait of the emperor in the form of a bust and a dedication plaque should be placed. After the approval of the emperor for this project was received, it was implemented and the facility could be opened on October 30th. When after the collapse of the monarchy and the two great wars, the veneration of the former ruling house had decreased significantly, the complex fell into disrepair, the bust of the emperor and the memorial plaque were removed by strangers.
In 1984, in cooperation with the Friends of Nature and the local savings bank, the community acquired a plaque with a relief image of Emperor Franz Josef. The complex is still popularly called the imperial bust, even if there is no longer a bust of an emperor here
