This stepped cone, popularly known as a stone pyramid, is the only one in Central Europe and is located on a striking place of power.

The stone pyramid is part of the Groß Gerungs power arena, which includes a total of 5 objects or spaces. These places invite you to pause and linger to feel the different qualities of the room, from invigorating to soothing. Star-shaped geomantic positive lines and clockwise water veins run through the pyramid, making the area a special place of power. It is still an archaeological puzzle.

The hiking tour starts at the car park in Etzen next to GH Mathe, where you can buy divining rods if you are interested, and leads to the impressive stone pyramid. This is located in the Neuwald near Ober Neustift and consists of circular steps with a total height of 6.8 m. The diameter of the bottom step is 16.5 m, that of the top step 7.2 m. Star-shaped geomantic positive lines and clockwise water veins run through the pyramid, making the area a special place of power. It is still an archaeological puzzle. It is still unknown when it was built and what purpose it served. Two elevated observation points allow a good view of the object protected by a fence. You can explore the square yourself and let it work for you, or take a guided tour by appointment (information at kraftarena.at or at the Groß Gerungs city office). Part of the pyramid has now slipped. A reconstruction without impairing the energetic peculiarity of this place is unfortunately not possible according to the current state of knowledge.

Unfortunately, the pyramid is no longer in perfect condition, as the older photos show. The north side is slightly damaged, the south side really slipped. Still a nice target to an unknown object. Apparently it is unclear who built the pyramid, what for and when.

The Waldviertel Pyramid is a pyramid in Waldviertel, Austria. It is hidden deep in the forest between Zwettl and Gross-Gerungs. It is the only known structure of its kind in Central Europe. It is of unknown age and consists of four circular layers of loosely stacked natural stones. The diameter at the base is 14 meters and the height is 7 meters. It has only been under official monument protection since 2001.

The original purpose of the pyramid is unknown. An interpretation as a Germanic place of worship or ancient tomb is unlikely because there was no prehistoric or early settlement of this area. An interpretation as medieval or more recent signalling station seems possible.

The elaborate construction seems to indicate a relatively modern design which could have been in an aristocratic situation – possibly part of a baroque garden or park.

Because the remains of walls have been found nearby, it is possible that the pyramid was once part of a larger complex.
Well worth seeing an interesting place in the middle of the forest.

              2000.10.26.
There were beautiful hikes and the place is very special.
Today (2022) I have to see from the other photos how dilapidated this step pyramid is unfortunately already. It's a shame.
Why wasn't the wall secured in time, as is often the case with castles? Is monument protection partly to blame?
Was it climbed down or was there too much moisture/water in the frost due to the moss and nature did its part!?
With my photos 17 years have passed.
Recent photos were taken on 10/26/2017.
(After 17 years the damage was still relatively "minor" now - only 5 years later the photos show the soon foreseeable "end" - a fenced-in pile of stones!!!! ....)
