The Furlo Gorge is an impervious Apennine gorge carved out by the Candigliano river, where high limestone walls rise overlooking the river. The ancient Via Flaminia passed here and the remains of a Roman tunnel dug into the rock are still visible today. The area has been declared a State Natural Reserve, it is possible to admire rocky outcrops of great geological interest, and you can find various species of wild animals, including hawks, eagles and roe deer.

The Furlo gorge is a gorge created by the erosive force of the Candigliano river, a tributary of the Metauro. Over the millennia erosion has reached a considerable depth that is no longer visible due to the presence of the dam, built in 1922, which transformed the rushing watercourse into a lake. The original route of the Via Flaminia passed through the Gorge crossing two tunnels offering the spectacle to thousands of tourists who, after World War II, went on vacation to the Adriatic coast.
