Alpe is one of 51 localities in the city of Wiehl. First mentioned in a document in 1553, namely "Tryn in der Ailpenn" is mentioned in a bill of exchange between Berg and Sayn. The spelling of the first mention was in the Ailpenn.

During the turmoil of the Second World War, makeshift quarters were created in a guesthouse for numerous evacuees from the bombed cities on the Rhine and Wupper. Some families then gain a foothold in the Alpe area in the long term.

In 2020 one of the rare full-time farms for cattle and dairy farming has been preserved in the village.
