The church was first mentioned in a document in 1326. In 1722 there was a report about the still formative renovation of the church.
The west tower has a double hipped roof and the hall building has a retracted choir. Parts of the winged altar come from the previous building and were added to the altar in the 18th century. The tower room, separated from the nave by a glass wall, serves as a meeting room for the parish outside of the services.
The central shrine focuses on the crucifixion group. The side wings decorate the altar.
The church is entered in the list of monuments of the Sömmerda district.
