Bike Touring Highlight
The Rhine bridge Wesel is a road bridge and spans the Rhine as part of the federal highway 58 on the Lower Rhine southwest of Wesel at kilometer 814.
As part of the construction of the bypass Wesel for the federal highway 58 has been built since May 2005, a new crossing of the Rhine downstream of the existing bridge. On November 30, 2009 followed with four months delay the official release of the Rhine bridge Wesel. The construction costs of the new bridge amounted to 44 million euros
The bridge train is a total of 772.54 meters long, has four lanes and on both sides each a walking and cycling path. The building spans the Rhine and the foreland lying between the flood plains. In the electricity sector, a current opening of at least 300 m wide and a clear height of 9.1 m must be kept clear at the highest navigable water level. Under these boundary conditions, a single-bridge cable-stayed bridge with a λ-shaped 130 m high pylon on the left bank of the Rhine was chosen as the bridge structure above the Rhine.
