The sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Buen Retiro de los Desamparados del Saliente is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in southeastern Spain. It is located in the municipality of Albox (Almería) and it houses the so-called Virgen del Saliente, an eighteenth-century image that enjoys great popular devotion in the nearby regions of both the province of Almería and nearby.
The temple was built on top of the old hermitage erected in the prehistoric settlement of Monte Roel, a privileged enclave for the first human settlements, due to its location on the historic route that led from the Vélez region to the Almanzora Valley, the proximity of an easily accessible spring and the protection provided by overlooking the wide surrounding valley.

It was Claudio Sanz y Torres, bishop of the diocese of Almería, who had it built in 1769 to house the legendary image of the Virgin, giving it a convent character.

It is a large building, with an approximate area of 2,500 square meters in which, according to tradition, there are as many doors and windows as there are days in the year. The church has a cross plan with a triple apse head and a large dome with pendentives over the main altar, presided over by a niche in which the venerated image of the Virgen del Saliente is located.
At present its use is still daily, with functions of church, episcopal palace and hostelry.
