This beautiful church was first mentioned in writing in 1194, so it is of Romanesque origin. The Gothic renovation took place from 1500 and the high altar was built in 1896. In 1986 the church was extensively restored.
What is particularly worth seeing in the church are the glass paintings from the Augsburg School from around 1520, as well as the baptismal font with a wooden structure and a picture of the Sacred Heart, both from 1796.
Right next to the church, within the church grounds, is the St. Michael Chapel from the 15th century with wall paintings from the late Gothic period. In the basement of the chapel there is an ossuary, a room for bones.

The patronage "Santa Maria Assunta" (in German: Assumption of the Virgin Mary) of this church refers to one of the many memorial or festival days in honor of the Mother of God Mary. It goes back to the feast of her physical assumption into heaven, which the (Catholic ) Church celebrates annually on August 15. In the Orthodox churches the festival is called "Assumption of the Virgin Mary".
In many rural areas it is customary for bundles of herbs to be collected by the population on this day and blessed during the festival service.
