With 1,001 inhabitants, Oberwölz is the smallest town in Styria. The city was elevated to a city as early as 1300 and experienced an economic boom in the 14th and 15th centuries. The city wall, three city gates and the fortifications, which still give the town center a medieval appearance, date from this time.
