A castle Weißenstein was probably built as early as 1210 and the place grew slowly around the city castle. In 1241, the original castle of the Knights of Weissenstein in connection with Ulrich von Weissenstein is mentioned for the first time. In 1384, the Counts of Rechberg come into the possession of the castle. Already in 1391, Weißenstein was granted city rights. In 1471, the castle chapel, which has a baroque altar, was mentioned for the first time. It will be renovated twice: 1700 in the Baroque and 1877 in the Gothic Revival style. Worth seeing murals and figures adorn the castle chapel. Weissenstein Castle received its present appearance with stepped gables, towers, bay windows and galleries at the beginning of the 17th century. A real rarity is the covered church, which leads directly from the castle to the church in Weissenstein. Similar church courses exist probably only four times in Germany. From the generously arranged Altane, on which in former times the so-called Tafelbau was, one has a wonderful view of the place and the environment.
