The open-pit Profen is a combined strip truck open pit mining three coal seams. In addition to the overburden, 5 to 10 meters of quartzite storage must be removed to expose the main seam. The overburden is recovered in a 3-section belt operation. The quartzite is broken up by blasting and loaded by hydraulic excavator and front loader on heavy-duty dump truck (85 t payload). The middle overburden between the upper and lower seam is obtained in belt operation and transported to the skimmer via the overburden collection belt system. The tilting of the roughing dimensions has been carried out since 1999 on the inside tip by means of a stripper.
