The fact that today's Igstadt district was once located on two different continents a long time ago is a specialty. Plate tectonics welded the two continents Gondwana and Laurussia together. The interface runs today on the southern edge of the Taunus and also through the Igstadt district. The attentive hiker will notice silvery shining slate on the slope side. It is phyllite, one of the oldest rocks in the Taunus at around 500 million years old.
