Today's Sebastian Chapel was built in 1750 as a token of thanks for being saved from the plague. Saint Sebastian has been venerated as the plague patron since the Middle Ages, he is also considered a patron saint against cattle diseases. According to early Christian legend, Sebastian was shot with arrows as an officer in the imperial guard under Diocletian because of his belief in Christianity.
