According to legend, the grave of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Turkish: Eyüp), a companion of Muhammad and his standard bearer, who fell outside the walls of Constantinople during the first unsuccessful siege of the city by the Muslims (674–678), is said to have taken place shortly after the Ottoman siege Conquest to have been found again. This grave site is now located in the Eyüp Sultan Mosque just outside the ancient city walls and is a popular tourist destination for many Muslims.

According to legend, the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Turkish: Eyüp), a companion of Muhammad and his standard-bearer, who fell outside the walls of Constantinople during the first unsuccessful Muslim siege of the city (674–678), was rediscovered shortly after the Ottoman conquest. This tomb is now located in the Eyüp Sultan Mosque.
Built in 1458, it was demolished after an earthquake and rebuilt in 1798.
