    Above the Edersee, this Polish cross testifies to a very dark chapter of German history. During World War II, a Polish slave laborer killed a German auxiliary policeman at the foot of the mountain and then fled because he feared he would be sent to a concentration camp. Since he could not be found by the search parties for weeks, the SS, on orders from Heinrich Himmler, had six imprisoned Polish prisoners hung up as a deterrent and all other Polish forced laborers had to watch the execution ..... as I said, a very dark piece of German history.

    Anyone hiking on the Hochstein route will pass the Polenkreuz.
    However, you can easily pass it and should pay attention to it
    The branch to the cross cannot be missed.

    This old cross stands very close to the Urwaldsteig. It is reminiscent of the gruesome acts that took place here. Hopefully it's always a reminder.
