Air station 17 of this observation chain is located in Sierndorf. The air-watch personnel performed their duty in small flight observation bunkers. These are all the same in terms of construction. They show only minor differences, which resulted from local adjustments or (presumably) also from the various executing companies.

Tasks of the air traffic control: monitoring the airspace, registering, identifying and reporting flight activities to the flak commanders and fighter control centers. The observers were a good addition, especially in the case of sturgeon pilots, as these were often not recognized by the radio measuring systems.

Equipment: Two binoculars, binoculars, flight reporting glass, aircraft pattern images, carbines. The air traffic control unit communicated with the flight control centers by means of telephones and radio devices via a central switchboard.

Personnel: For the most part, older air intelligence soldiers (born around 1900) almost exclusively from the vicinity of the respective air station.

Duty time: The air watch was manned around the clock. At the beginning, three men took turns every two hours (observation service, telephone service, sleep break) within 24 hours. After that there were 48 hours off duty. The number of staff deployed was later reduced.
