This railway line is really idyllic. The cycle path connects the Wuppertaler Nordbahntrasse and Hattingen, where you can reach the RuhrtalRadweg very quickly.

The route runs through the middle of the green and is really beautiful. It is not paved, but the well-groomed gravel surface is also passable with the road bike, at least when it is dry. On the way worth a stop in the old Sprockhöveler station, which is located next to the road. There are delicious, homemade cakes, fresh waffles and next door is a health food store.

The Hattinger route runs in north-south direction over about 13 km with a slight slope always on the edge of a valley, first you cross Sprockhövel. A change of woodland and open countryside with agricultural land makes the ride varied. Since 2008, Hattingen is reached by the Schulenburg tunnel, a previously necessary bypass on busy or steep streets is no longer necessary. Fortunately, the initial closure of the tunnel after dark is now a thing of the past. In October 2011, the RVR released the missing link to the Ruhr. From Grünstraße continue for 800 m on the railway track to Nierenhofer Straße, from here to the Ruhr it is only a stone's throw away.

In the area Sprockhövel is a sign on the bike path with the reference to the cafe, etc. Here you should rest! The restaurant is also an organic shop with a wide range of items and is called "ALTER BAHNHOF" Here you can go on the narrow path directly on the sign and enjoy delicious cakes and coffee outside, friendly service and hearty meals are available. Everything at a reasonable price / performance ratio.

From the train station Schee to Hattingen, the route is constantly downhill and is completely car-free - very relaxing.

On hot days maybe take jacket. The Schee tunnel with its 700 m length always has 8-10 °. And: always driving from south to north: saves 120 meters of altitude. The northern section is not asphalted yet, but passable on wet roads.

The coal route is well developed, solid gravel. The northern end is in Hattingen at the Shell gas station, the southern in Wuppertal-Schee.
Directly in Hattingen there's the Schulenberg tunnel.
From Hattingen you have a permanent, easy climb and should not tackle the increase too fast.

A very nice cycling route. From Scheetunnel in the south you drive to Hattingen in the north over Sprockhövel with a slight incline always downhill. Attention, because of a major construction site in Sprockhövel currently interrupted and it must be driven a bit on the main road through Sprockhövel to get back on the track direction Schulenberg tunnel.

The route is not asphalted, but the solid gravel surface is at least drivable in the dry.

From Hattingen it goes ten kilometers uphill almost imperceptibly, only the start in Hattingen is a little steeper. Then it goes slightly down to deep in Wuppertal.
