    The former inner German border ran exactly through the two tribes of the two-country regions in the Ellricher city forest. The special stamp "Zweiländereiche" is one of three special stamps (next to Jungborn and Dreiländerstein) that must be hiked to acquire the "Harzer Grenzweg" themed hiking needle.

    A sign on the two borders explains the different boundary stones:
    KP = Kingdom of Prussia
    HB = Duchy of Braunschweig (from 1816)
    ST W = Stiftsamt Walkenried (after 1668)
    GDR = boundary stone from 1968

      The border here is a bit more romantic than elsewhere, where the martial fortifications are directly visible.

        Past remains of the barbed wire to reach the beautifully located special post office Hwn.
