The small town of Gothmund with its natural harbor, sheltered by reeds between the lagoon and the Trave, was first mentioned in 1502 - and it is still a fishing village today. And a magical thing on top of that, as can be explored on the fishing path that leads through the middle. The artfully thatched houses are lovingly decorated, framed by beautiful gardens. Even at the many small cottages tend roses, the windows embellished. And no people lived here - one could almost think that it was specially erected to delight us.

To keep the idyll, you should exceptionally get off your bike and slide through the romantic little place - then you can see more. It is definitely worth it - I can definitely recommend it.

More than 500 years ago fishermen used this place on the Lübeck Bay near the Trave as a stopover. It was ideally located and was also well protected. Over the years, it no longer served as a stopover, but the fishermen settled there. So a small village with about 100 inhabitants was created.

Over time, the number of fishermen decreased and so did the number of inhabitants in Gothmund. Today there are also new residents who appreciate this wonderful, quiet location. Unfortunately there was a major fire in the village in 1893 and destroyed most of the village, only the eastern part has been preserved.

The former fishing village of Gothmund is a really idyllic place and is only a few kilometers away from Lübeck city center. There are some thatched roof houses that are several hundred years old. Together with the small natural harbor, this makes this idyll perfect. The boats in this port are actually still used and some real fishermen still live in the houses today.
