The 1200m long city wall around Creuzburg was built around 800 years ago. The wall consisted of several gates and towers. The wall was 4 meters high, up to 10 meters high at the Gottesackerkirche, and half a meter to 2 meters wide. The gates were demolished during Napoleon's time because they were too narrow for military vehicles.
In the outside area there were land defenses, i.e. ditches and ramparts, as well as thorn hedges.
Today you can find a remaining part of the old city wall right here near the market square.
