The Thalersee is an artificial lake not far from the Styrian capital of Graz. It is a popular excursion destination: you can paddle here in summer and put on your ice skates in winter. There is also a restaurant right on the lake shore for a relaxing break with the best view of the water.

The Thalersee right behind the hills in the west of Graz is one of the most popular local recreation destinations for the people of Graz. The lake has had an eventful history. In 1925, Hans von Reininghaus expanded the lake into what was then a modern lido with an area of 65,000 square meters.

The Thalersee became a marginal note in international media when Arnold Schwarzenegger asked for Maria Shriver's hand on a rowing boat. In 2014 the Thalersee property was acquired by the City of Graz or “Holding Graz” for 1.25 million euros in order to secure the lake as a local recreation area for Graz.
