The gate tower was restored in 1908, whereby the architect P.J.H. Cuypers added wall walkway, hood and corner turrets. This after the example of other city gates. These additions can be recognized by a different type of stone.

Outside the gate there used to be a younger front gate with two round towers. One connecting wall is still standing. It contains cannon and arquebus firing holes.
