The LIMESEUM, which opened in 2012, is the first museum building in Bavaria since the Limes was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 and was nominated for the European Museum Prize 2015. Designed by the Munich architects Karl + Probst, the round building fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape. The façade, characterized by glass and wood, allows the visitor to create the connection between the themes and objects presented in the exhibition on the one hand and the surrounding world heritage on the other. The connection culminates with the view from the panorama window to the castle in the Roman park. Last but not least, the monument area on site is significantly upgraded.

The permanent exhibition in LIMESEUM illustrates in a modern way the Limes section between Mönchsroth and Arberg with its focus on Ruffenhofen. The focus here is on the life of the Limes World Heritage Site as well as the issues of timber preservation, the military and everyday civilian life.

The soldier December, who is known by name from the castle Ruffenhofen, reports in exhibits, audio stations and a film from his life and accompanies the visitor through the exhibition. Adventure stations for children complete the concept.

The small café offers visitors a place to pause. For lectures and external events in the evening, the multi-purpose room can be rented (via contact form).
