The area around the sheepfold, on the west side of the Thülsfeld dam, is definitely worth a visit. However, considering the consequences, this visit should only be carried out on the designated paths with consideration for others.
This “highlight” is located in a natural area that is particularly protected by the FFH directive and is therefore definitely something special. However, the animals and plants should be given the necessary respect.
Quote from the Wikipedia entry on the areas on the western bank that are mentioned here as mountain bike highlights:
"The heath areas west of the Thülsfeld dam represent protected habitats of European importance in accordance with the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive (FFH-RL), which were reported to the EU by the state of Lower Saxony in 1999 as habitats to be protected."

In this respect, we ask you to take part in this highlight
to behave in an “environmentally friendly” manner. And here, don't ride your mountain bikes - off the beaten path - through the terrain!
Maintaining considerate cooperation on the paths supports the recreational value of all visitors.
    Thanks!

A beautiful route through the picturesque landscape.

Since I don't want to be a grumpy person, I add the following additions that I found on the website of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation:
        Quote:
        "Nature-friendly mountain biking
In order to minimize these effects, the German Initiative Mountainbiking e.V. (DIMB) was formed in Germany. She is not only committed to the concerns of mountain biking, but also to raising awareness about the ecological impacts of her sport.
Cross-country riding, for example, can be prevented by a well-marked route network developed in cooperation with mountain bikers and rules of conduct issued by associations and tourism professionals to athletes (model example: Franconian Forest Nature Park). The following measures are important for nature-friendly mountain biking:

Routes should be avoided in particularly ecologically sensitive areas.
The development and clear signage of nature-friendly routes by the tourist offices and mountain bikers in collaboration with experts from the forest authorities and nature and landscape protection.
The cycling and tourism industries should be careful not to use images of cross-country rides in their advertising. It is also important for mountain bikers to make certain rules of conduct known and enforced.
On guided mountain bike tours, practical tips for acting in an environmentally friendly and nature-friendly manner should not be missing: This starts with learning the correct braking technique and extends to dealing with other trail users."
        Quote end

An understanding cooperation and better organization on the part of the tourism industry would help to create a balance between the different interests.
