The type of post mill was widespread throughout Central Europe in the late Middle Ages. Today there are only a few of them left. That makes this example, built in 1704, even more special. In theory, it is still operational, but is no longer used today because of the high level of personnel required. If the wind direction changes, the whole mill box has to be manually realigned. It can be viewed on the first Sunday in September, the annual mill day.

The post windmill is the prototype of the Central European windmill. Your mill house is literally suspended on the so-called "house tree" or stand. If the wind changes, the whole mill house has to be turned into the wind again. In the late Middle Ages, this mill type was distributed to thousands throughout central and northern Europe. They were little expandable and susceptible to storm and fire, and yet they never completely displaced the more modern Dutch windmill. Today only a few of them are left. And even fewer are still operational today. One of them is the post windmill in Hänigsen. Built in 1704, according to a document of 1705, it was for all time free from any tax, a right that is still valid today. Shut down in 1945, it was bought by the Müller Schubotz from the Schubotz mill in Celle (No. 86) in 1962 and was used again until 1995. Today, however, it can only be started occasionally. On the annual mill day (every 1st Sunday in September), the mill is open to visitors.Bockwindmühle with rebuilt buck and extensions on both sides of the box. Broken saddle roof. Pre-rotation: Starts with a winch. Number of courses: 1 meal, 1 meal. Number of comb wheels: 1 wood, double spokes, iron gear ring. Wing shaft: wood with iron corrugated head. Reeling: X lower drive, steel, iron wheels. Other machines: 1 brush simmer for baking shot, 1 peeling machine, 1 grain elevator, sack lift. Wind drive: 4 Venetian blind wings (pull), wooden rods, wooden chest pieces. Auxiliary drive: electric motors. Only fragmentary inscription in the hammer. In the wing wave "1897". Special features: Attachments on both sides of the box. Technique partly taken from other mills, bevel shaft, spur gear, shotgun from Bockmühle Groß-Lobke, grinding course and sifter of Wassermühle Wienhausen.
