Trinkwassertalsperre Cranzahl

The Cranzahl dam was one of the two major dam projects in the GDR and was then called the dam of friendship. Bathing in it is not allowed, but the circular route is very beautiful. The dam supplies Annaberg-Buchholz and the surrounding area with drinking water.

What can I say there is not much to see apart from water.

The area around the dam is ideal for hiking and cycling.

Here you can enjoy peace and pure nature. As a starting point, you can again use the Cranzahler train station to make cycling tours to the dam, to the Bärenstein and to Neudorf.

We start the tour at Cranzahl train station and take the train to Kretscham Rothensehma. There it goes over the road towards Dam Cranzahl. In the forest, take the branching Feuerturmweg and climb the Bärenstein. There good food. Descend over the beautiful view and over the dam back to the train station Cranzahl. Perfect tour.

Coffee and cake on the Bärensteiner Berg are delicious.

The detour to Bärensteiner mountain with its very nice circuit and the nice coffee is always worthwhile.

If you hike in the area, be sure to hike to the Habichtsberg and Fichtelbergblick.

The blue pearl on the Bärenstein is located in an idyllic forest area. There are various cycling and hiking trails, including a beautiful circular route around the dam. As with any drinking water reservoir, swimming and water sports are not permitted in the TS Cranzahl.

Once around the dam is recommended, especially in the afternoons after pastry gluttony, the short variant with a length of approx. 3.5 km can be done by almost everyone.

The rest area right by the dam is also nice!

The dam is at the foot of the Bärenstein. Numerous hiking trails can be used.

Beautiful dam in the mountains, certainly good as a photo motif and to linger for a while.

At the Cranzahl Dam there is always a bit of Canada feeling. One of the most beautiful places in the Ore Mountains, if you ask me.

The path is easy to walk with light shoes.

Located in a scenic area. It's easy to hike and you don't need any special equipment.

Nice resting place directly at the dam.
Those who take the steep ascent to the Bärenstein from here also have a beautiful view of the dam on the way!

Take a photo of the dam and the woods in winter, send it to people who have never been there and just claim you are in Canada. People 100% believe it.

A hike to the Bärenstein is worthwhile.
