The pumping station was built in 1849 and was in operation until 1933. With several other works the area of Haarlemmerliede was drained. Since 1934 De Cruquius is an industrial monument (part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage) and houses a museum dedicated to the fight against the water. A nice cafe is right next door.

Located right on the Haarlemmerdijk, a great cycle path along the water with perfect smooth asphalt and modest traffic.
