Named after the rower Ludwig Christoph Rübsamen.
Born in Butzbach in 1823 as the son of a master locksmith, Rübsamen also trained as a gymnastics teacher in addition to his training as a locksmith. In 1848 he fled to America in connection with the German Revolution and after his return in 1849 found the center of his life in Giessen. Here he worked as a gymnastics teacher at MTV Gießen and later at the city, at the grammar school and at the university. He was also involved in founding a bathing establishment on the Lahn and the Gießen volunteer fire department. In 1877 he was one of the founding members of the Giessen rowing society. Rübsamen died in 1889.
