At the beginning of the 19th century, Baron Wilhelm Carl Knigge promoted many industrial enterprises in the "Bredenbeck court". The Glashütte am Steinkrug, where the first glass furnace was installed in 1834, was one of these projects. For more than a decade, stained glass lenses were produced here.

The Brennturm, built in 1838 from Deistersandstein, had its day in 1928. Today the flue gas cone is protected as an industrial monument and can only be admired at a distance for safety reasons. Heated was first with wood, later, after the construction of the railway, with coal from the Deister. The quartz sand for glass production came first from the nearby quarries, later from the Lüneburg and the Nienburger Heide. Glassworks had to be moved due to their high wood consumption after a few years of operation in an untouched forest area. That is why it was until the 19th century so-called "hiking glassworks". Among the glassmakers there were various specialists such as the "Tafelglasmacher" or the "Medicinglasmacher". Due to the location of their workplaces, they lived off the rest of the population.
