Part of the old coal mine Barsinghausen

Anyone who walks up the heap cone via the "stairs to heaven" in the Zechenpark suddenly finds a sofa, armchairs, chairs and a window frame at the top of the vantage point. The traces of a living room - crazy, frost-proof and weatherproof - have created students from Barsinghausen.

Artists from the Noa Noa Art School came up with the idea. From the "outdoor living room" you have a wonderful unobstructed view of the Calenberger Land. The distances to Hanover (20.2 km) and to Lake Steinhude (19.5 km) are engraved on a large stone right next to it.

The view of the Deister and the green colliery park is also beautiful. Anyone who then wonders how the mountain was formed under his feet must realize that it is the result of hard work. It is overburden that comes from the depths of the Deister and was hewn out of the rock during coal mining. Working underground was not easy for the miners. This can be seen and experienced in the visitor mine at the foot of the heap.

Here you can still visit the tunnel where the coal was extracted from the underground until 1957.

The ensemble of colliery, museum, heap and park is a successful mixture of local industrial history to touch, leisure and play landscape as well as art and green culture. The park is located at the foot of the heap in Barsinghausen and is criss-crossed by winding paths. There are beeches and birches to be seen, but also wet corners and rows of bushes.

In his wild nature, he is well suited for romping and playing hide and seek for children. On information boards you can read and see what it used to look like here in the mining era of Barsinghausen with coking plant, coal gasification, coal bunker and cinder block factory. Take a break in the café, which has indoor and outdoor seating.
