The "Großer Stein" nature reserve has a special feature. This is a Tertiary basalt dome that broke up into a sea of basalt blocks during the Ice Age. The boulders, up to half a meter in diameter, are exposed in the upper area and are overgrown by a species-rich moss and lichen flora.
In the lower area of the block heap, the fine soil rinsed off from above has collected and rare forest formations with sometimes lush herbaceous layers grow here. The basalt dome and its block heap represent a very rare habitat and have a high protection value. Around 28 hectares of the state forest around the "Großer Stein" with over 150 year old beech forests in various forms are designated as a natural forest reserve.

The small detour (on foot) you should definitely make. Has something mystical - great scenery! Informative explanations at the sign with QR code.

From the east there is a very easy to ride trail up to the crest, you just have to do a bit of slalom around the stones.
I doubt whether the fireplace up there is legal, since there is a nature reserve here.
