Who stands in the Theodor Neubauer street, can hardly escape the sight. For 22 years, the last large building of the former machine factory of Karl Krause (1823-1902) is empty. Now it is built vigorously, about 100 apartments are to be created in the building.
The mighty brick building with its 22 axes was built between 1911 and 1913. The successors of entrepreneur legend Krause developed a world first: the copier. Partially destroyed during the Second World War and weakened by reparations to the Soviet Union, the former Krause factory survived as VEB Buchbindereimaschinenwerke Leipzig in the Polygraph combine. In 1994, the plant was closed. All other factories were gradually demolished. Only the huge industrial monument was preserved despite repeated fires.
