Legendary Westerwald:
According to legend, it is a fallen harvest wagon of a farmer, who wanted to bring in his grain in the dark in the approaching thunderstorm, without giving his tithing to his landlord, the archbishop of Trier.
In the light of the lightning, the tithing helper saw him from the nearby Hartenfels Castle, the "Schanddeppen" and rode after the fleeing peasant. On the bumpy road, the heavily laden harvest cart knocked over. Angered by his mishap, the farmer shouted a curse at the heir: "If only you became a stone!" But the curse hit the curse itself. No sooner was the last word of his tongue than there was deathly silence. The tithing found only a pile of petrified sheaves and next to the petrified peasants with his ox team and the dog, half sunk in the ground, motionless. Basalt stones. (KK and WG)
