THE LANDMARK OF KAPPEL BORN CHAPEL "REDEEMER IN TERROR" On February 5, 1860, the Kappel community assembly approved one hundred francs from the community fund for the construction of a chapel on the Born near the Wetterkreuz. The total construction costs for the chapel were estimated at 1500 francs. Thanks to many generous donations, the Born Chapel was finally built. Construction probably began in 1863. The plan for the chapel was drawn up by the master builder Keller from Hitzkirch. The craftsmen from Kappel were used as far as possible for the construction work. A small quarry was specially dug in "Chatzengraben" for the building stones. The farmers of Kappel provided the draft horses and wagons for the arduous work. Of course, the chapel could only be built thanks to the manual labor of many volunteers.

On Saturday, May 17, the completely renovated Stations of the Cross on the Born in Kappel will be inaugurated. Construction work has been underway on the path since mid-August 2013, and 127 new steps made of Jura stone have been installed. You can become a sponsor for each one.
In 1860, the Stations of the Cross with 14 stations depicting Christ's Passion were created in Kappel. Over the course of these 150 years, repairs and renovation work have taken place several times (see context box). Five years ago, the Pro Bornkapelle Foundation, which is responsible for maintaining the path, began preparatory work for a complete renovation. "The wooden sleepers were old and rotten, the gravel had been washed away," explains President Roman Hellbach. "People kept slipping on them."
