The Smugglers' Trail is a narrow rocky path that runs along the steep west side of Lake Garda right through a huge rock face. At first, this tour is NOT a via ferrata in the traditional sense, there are only a few passages with a steel rope insured! You have to bring a climbing rope and express slings (and also the experience with them) to handle this way without stress.

Very nice path, longer than it looks on the topo from bergsteiger.com. How long it takes depends a lot on how/where you belay - longer stretches can easily be hiked. There are enough hooks to hang Exen. What works well is a running backup at a distance of roughly 20 m. The more exes you take with you, the less time you lose with leadership changes. If that's not enough as a technical description, you should probably leave it alone.

Somewhat more demanding are only the spread step (if you don't spread your legs wide enough, it will just be snaking), the short piece of via ferrata over the Platte and the rope ladder - everything else is just to enjoy (especially the view). Going clockwise has the advantage that the steep path to the village has to be climbed.
