From Bierbaum's Nagel, there is a great view over the Eggegebirge and its surroundings under suitable weather conditions. Ascension informs about the history of the tower. Benches are available at the foot of the tower.

In 1849, Julius Bierbaum, banker and owner of the estate Borlinghausen, built the observation tower to give the poor rural population an income opportunity. The tower was a present for his wife, who came from Kassel and suffered from homesickness, so that in clear weather from the tower she could see the Hercules, the landmark of her birthplace Kassel. The arduous ascent she undertook on a donkey, which is why this way was called "donkey trail" or is.
In 1990, the observation tower was restored with funds from the NRW Foundation and has since been accessible again.

Bierbaums Nagel is located in the southern part of the Eggegebirge about 200 m east of the Eggeweg which runs through this low mountain range about 1.5 km west-northwest of Borlinghausen. He stands on a small open space of 431.4 m above sea level. NN high and mostly heavily forested mountain.

From the viewing platform of the tower offers a view in good visibility conditions, which among other things to Köterberg, the Schwalenburg near Willingen, the Desenberg in the Warburger Börde and Hercules in Kassel extends.
