Nature Education Garden Mindelheim

The local group of the Federal Nature Conservation Association in Mindelheim (Unterallgäu district) is particularly active! This group of nature lovers has spent many hours of voluntary work creating a nature education garden to provide visitors with information about native plants. The nature education garden was opened in 2007 and has been expanded since then. Today the garden (actually it is a whole small garden show) offers opportunities for learning, playing and relaxing for children and adults. Anyone who wants to take a trip to Mindelheim could combine a visit to the nature education garden with a visit to Mindelburg. The garden is not far from Mindelburg, at the foot of the castle hill.
Visitors to the Mindelheim nature education garden are best advised to leave their car in the car park by the outdoor pool and then walk south past the outdoor pool, the mini golf course and the "Pizzobello" pizzeria, then a short distance along the edge of the forest - and then the natural idyll is reached! The nature education garden stretches between the edge of the forest and meadows along a stream. The stream is included in the area. The center of the educational garden is an artificial pond, the "sky pond," a biotope for dragonflies and other insects that love moisture; there are benches on the banks of the pond and in other places on the site. On the circular path through the nature educational garden, visitors pass various carefully laid out biotopes, for example a rock garden planted with alpine flowers (including gentian), wet meadows and hedges, a meadow orchard and various flower beds (globus vulgaris, mulleins and much more...).

As far as we know, there is no nature education garden in the entire Allgäu and Swabia. This situation and reports from similar facilities gave rise to the idea of creating such a facility in Mindelheim. The nature education garden has the task of comprehensively conveying the connections in nature. The aim is to sensitize and inform young people and adults about the beauty of nature and to explain the presentation of special features using examples.
