The Rotbach is actually not RED at all, but a clear, lively flowing water of almost 22 km up to the mouth in the Rhine! old designations on older maps also called Munne, Münne, Minne, "the Bach", "the Beeck", "the Becke" or the "the red Bache".But as early as 1486 it was first called "de roje Beek". Later it was also called "electoral Möhlenbach" or just Mühlenbach.A total of five water mills on the Rotbach also fit in perfectly with this:Grafenmühle (no longer available)
Water mill at Haus Hiesfeld
Dörnemann mill near the village church of Hiesfeld (no longer available)
Altstadt-Mühle at Altmarkt Dinslaken (no longer available)
Water mill at Haus Wohnung near the Rhine
At the beginning of the 20th century, the free-flowing brook was then largely canalized ... The poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is also said to have hiked the romantic hiking trail along the bank ..
