The Prüm rises in the Vulkaneifel district at the northeastern end of the Schneifel ridge. Its source is between Ormont and Reuth at 650 m above sea level. NHN in the Arenberg Forest.

In 2021, during heavy rainfall, the Prüm swelled and washed away half the Wald campsite in the town of Prüm, resulting in one death. The Prüm rose by 1.5 to 2.0 meters and many houses and farmlands suffered from a lot of flooding. The speed with which this happened was underestimated by many.
