The Hindenburg Bridge was a railway bridge over the Rhine between Rüdesheim am Rhein and Bingen-Kempten, named since 1918 after Field Marshal and later Reich President Paul von Hindenburg. The bridge, which went into operation on September 1, 1915, was destroyed in the Second World War and was not rebuilt afterwards.

Remains of the forebridges overgrown by vegetation can be found on both sides of the Rhine, especially on the left bank of the Rhine. Parts of the railway embankments are also still there. At the eastern exit of Rüdesheim am Rhein, federal highway 42 runs through the dam in one of the preserved underpass arches. Some of the basalt pillars can still be seen in the Rhine. The still preserved bridge torso is part of the Rhine-Main Industrial Heritage Route.

An impressive ruin - with the two remaining remains of bridge pillars in the Rhine, you get a certain idea of the dimensions of the building.

Even without the historical background, these are impressive structures that are slowly overgrowing.

The remains of the Hindenburg Bridge. There is a board by the bridge to read the story about it 😉
