The Heidesee in the northwest of the city of Bottrop is a three-water former gravel excavation complex. The area was included in the recreation concept of the Ruhr area in 1973 and designed in sub-areas in the sense of biotope and species protection. It has become an important habitat for plants and animals that are worthy of protection. The lake, which today measures approximately 54 hectares, is home to a nationwide significant underwater plant vegetation (including five candelabra algae species).

Small Trampelpfadtour along the Heidesee .. Depending on the season probably overgrown. We had to scramble over some overturned trees and thus had an additional little adventure 🤗🐾

Bridges are always great 🤗 but you can also extend the lap without crossing the bridge. We just walked over it twice 😀

The Heidesee goes back to a working in the 20th century gravel pit company Becker. Adjacent to the east are two smaller, nameless ponds. After completion of the gravel mining the lake was designed in the sense of biotope and species protection with several islands and the environment for natural recreation.

There are hiking trails around the lake. A parking lot for the recreational area Kirchheller Heide is located about 250 meters from the east bank. (WIKI)
Starting point for long hikes. Frequently frequented on weekends and in good weather, the surrounding forests are mostly empty.

From the trail several small paths lead to hidden bays on the lake. Here you have an undisturbed view of the biotope, in good weather, the bays are mostly occupied.
