Once the place was inhabited by farmers. Lent with him were the lords of Salegast. In the Magdeburg Schöffenchronik appears for the year 1208 Wenherus de Salgast. In 1285, Bertholdus de Salgast was the lord of the place. Her small castle stood on the Schlangenberg, a castle hill, also called tower hill. He stands next to the church and is still about five meters high today. He was protected by a moat, in front of which a wall was laid in the west. Next to it extends the Serpent Trench, an old mule arm that gave the name to the castle hill. On the hill stood two oak trees, their trunks leaning towards each other. In folk tradition, they symbolize two lovers who do not want to leave each other.
